The Universalist Church School Union Trust

Welcome to the Web site of the Universalist Church School Union Trust.

The Universalist Church School Union Trust has had a long history of supporting religious educational programs in Massachusetts. The trust dates back to 1856 when it was incorporated by a special act of the state legislature. Originally known as the Universalist Sabbath School Union, in 1949 its name was changed to the Universalist Church School Union Trust.

Today, the Trust continues to support the religious education programs of the founding Universalist churches. These congregations now include:

  • The Universalist Unitarian Church of Brockton
  • The Unitarian Universalist Church of Greater Lynn
  • The First Parish of Malden, Universalist
  • The Unitarian Universalist Church of Medford
  • The Melrose Unitarian Universalist Church
  • The First Parish Universalist Church of Stoughton
  • The Universalist Society of Wakefield
  • The First Parish Unitarian Universalist in Waltham
  • The Unitarian Universalist Church of Weymouth

In addition, the Trustees may fund proposals which:

  1. Train teachers along with promoting other programs planned by various educational affiliates of the Unitarian Universalist Association
  2. Assist religious education institutes of the Unitarian Universalist Association which serve eastern Massachusetts
  3. Provide scholarship, preferably to those attending the member churches of the Trust, that will enable religious educators and students to attend summer institutes, such as Ferry Beach or Star Island.

Each member church designates a Trustee for a five year term. The Trustees meet once a year during the spring to disburse the income of the Trust and to make other policy decisions.
